The first set of Interviewees with former miners and their families had a strong theme of camaraderie and 'having each others back' there was and still is a definite Code!!

If I could live my life again
I'd do it in a heartbeat
in the dark and wet mi days be spent
I'd walk the miles deep underground
with all mi mates beside mi
diggin out the coal to pay mi rent

Verse 2
The work was hard and days were long
n temperatures were rising
I often thought mi back would break in half
but knowing that the lads were here
all workin right beside mi
thinkin up more pranks - it were a laugh

the friendships that were built
would last a lifetime and beyond
although we've lost some good ones on the way
I knew they had mi back
and of course I had theirs too
It's the Colliers Code of Conduct
it's what we do

We'd ride the loco to the face
our belts heavy around us
the only light we'd see was on our heads
but knowing that the wife was there
sat at our house waitin
for me to tuck the kids up in their beds

at picket lines and protests
fightin for our rights we took a stand
through wind n rain n sleet and snow
our wives stood proud beside us
for 12 long months no payments crossed our hands

now the pit has closed, our jobs have gone

of an industry that fuelled this great land
so I'll doff mi cap to one n all
to all mi mates beside mi
The memories of mi jobs - ee it were grand
