I Wish I'd listened © Corrie Shelley When my Daddy drove me to the church on our wedding day he said to me 'Girl you think hard is this the life you crave? Coz if you have one ounce of doubt I'll take you far away!' I wish I'd listened to him now, but I chose to stay Coz you swore that you would love me for eternity and that you'd work hard every day help raise our family but all you did was drink away the money that I earned I wish I'd listened to him now, it was a hard lesson to learn My dress it lies in tatters at the bottom of the bed along with all my hopes and dreams and the promises you said where did the man that I once love disappear to over night I never knew what I'd done wrong, so how could I put it right Now everyday I see your face worn by our little boy and you missed out on so much fun, while he brought so much joy coz you just found your happiness in the bottom of a glass I wish I'd listened to him now, but that's all in the past. So I hope you're doing fine now, I don't wish you any harm coz I have found true happiness in someone else's arms but if I had the chance to live my life over again I wouldn't change a single thing coz it's made me who I am

Alice 03:55
Alice © Corrie Shelley Alice sits by the window and watches the trains go by holding tightly onto her Mother's hand, knowing soon she will kiss her goodbye As the train pulls into the station, her Mother say's 'Don't you cry! It'll be just like a holiday, and soon you'll be back by my side' Hundreds of children are boarding the trains, to take them far away to the green fields of England to families unknown who've promised to keep them safe With suitcase and gas mask in her hand and a name tag around her neck as the steam billows from the engine and the train pulls away down the tracks Alice cries for her Mother, and Father who's gone to war to fight for his country will fellow men, she don't know what they're fighting for Days and weeks turn to months and years and Alice grew tall and thin but the letters from home came infrequently and her memory of them it grew dim When Churchill announced that we'd won the war, and we must rebuild our land Alice dreamed that the day would come when she'd hold her Mothers hand Alice now sits at the station and watches the trains go by she remembers the days of long ago and the tears flow again from her eyes.

The Box 04:12
The Box © Corrie Shelley I heard talk that you were leaving town, that you had somewhere else to go were you ever gonna say goodbye?, or just leave me in the cold I guess I didn't mean that much to you, you were only passing through if you're ever back in town again here's what I would say to you You'll find a box down by the gatepost of all the things you left behind ticket stubs from our first movie and the cork from our first wine. I don't miss you lying next to me, I no-longer miss your smell I don't dream about your anymore, won't be the victim of your hell they say you've done this many times before, tore apart so many lives left homes burning in your wake, but I'll be the one who survives My heart will no-longer be broken, you no-longer hold the key all the feelings that I had for you, you took a way when you left me You'll find a box down by the gatepost, of all the things you left behind ticket stubs from our first movie and the cork from our first wine. that shirt of yours I'd wear on Sunday's, love notes you'd leave for me to find pictures that we took in Memphis, the bear you won me for a dime the valentine card that you sent me that swore you'd love me for all time the mix tape of our favourite love songs, and the cork from our first wine

Here Comes The Rain © Corrie Shelley I'm the fly you are the spider, friendship breaker and divider upward social mobile climber, beguiler but I'll get free, Oh I'll get free You're the spider I'm the fly but I won't get trapped in your web of lies I can see right though that thin disguise, your alibi's oh I'll get free, Oh I'll get free you think that I am just some silly girl who hangs on every word you say well I've got news for you that this will be your judgment day You had your chance and now it's time for me to pack my bags and walk away I'll be ok, I'll be ok You think that I will never leave that I will stay here for eternity and all the tales you'd tell me I'd believe, but they're killing me so I'll get free, Oh I'll get free Your love was like a high off heroin or needle full of sweet cocaine I'm going cold turkey I've had enough of the pain I'm gonna wash your broken promises right out my life and down the drain Here comes the rain, Here comes the rain Your spiders web now lies in tatters, but listen closely cos this matters my heart will no-longer be flattered, or battered I'm breaking free, I'm breaking free
5.
Culloden 04:27
Culloden © Corrie Shelley I fear my love has gone and died, he went to war and left my side to fight the cause with fellow men and I'll na'er see his face again the battle raged till the days end, blood was spilled on these fair glens the dead and dying lay on the ground, I fear my true love will na'er be found when battle ceased we searched for signs, the women folk their men to find betwixed the injured and the dead, each passing soul a prayer was said a cry of joy and sweet relief, then of sorrow and painful grief neither side had victory won at the setting of the sun so few men would walk from here without the sound still in their ears sword on sword cannon roar, thundering hooves, bugle call this field now lies a barren waste, a monument stands to mark the place an eerie silence no word spoken just heather laid there as a token what of my love? I hear thee ask, what fate befell us what came to pass? his life was spared no injuries cept for the scars of his memories Speed bonny boat like a bird on the wing onward the sailors cry carry the lad that was born to be king over the sea to Skie

My Hands 03:43
My Hands © Corrie Shelley I held you in my arms on the day that you were born and kept you close to me to keep you safe and warm and I knew that one day you would learn to stand on your own two feet and let go of my hand you took your first steps and you took my breath away you'd seek out new adventures every single day nothing held you down as you reached for the sky then you left this town and spread your wings to fly But my hand still feels your hand holding tight just the way that it used to now someone else is holding you tonight and gets to feel it too You call me up at night and say you're doing fine we talk for hours like you've been here all the time then you say 'Goodnight and I Love You too' and you miss me and that you will come home soon You introduce me to the one who holds your heart I recognise that look and know you'll never part it's the same one I gave you when you were young that built this love inside and keeps it growing strong do do do do and I knew that one day you would learn to stand on your own two feet and let go of my hand

Clocks 04:31
Clocks © Corrie Shelley Drove past your old house just the other day, memories flooded back from before you went away of how you'd hold my hand so tight as I walked by your side you'd let me sit up on your knee when I was growing tired but the clocks they've all stopped now you've left me and I can't rewind the time oh the clocks they've all stopped now you've left me I just wish I'd had the chance to say goodnight Days seem harder now that you're not here with me so I'll think of all the words that you would say to me when I'm in a mess and all I need is your sound advice you'd sit and talk for hours, you'd make that sacrifice but the clocks they've all stopped now you've left me and I can't rewind the time oh the clocks they've all stopped now you've left me I just wish I'd had the chance to say goodnight Gonna come a time when I am older than you were, gonna come a time when I grow frail but the little girl inside me still wants to hold your hand and hear you tell me all those fairytales Wish that I could pause one moment in time just to spend it here with you I'd replay the scene over and over in my mind as the image of you flickers into view but the clocks they've all stopped now you've left me and I can't rewind the time oh the clocks they've all stopped now you've left me I just wish I'd had the chance to say goodnight Hope I'll be as treasured as you are, hope I'll mean as much to someone too and I hope you know that you are loved, of that there is no doubt I hope I've made you proud and didn't disappoint but the clocks they've all stopped now you've left me and I can't rewind the time oh the clocks they've all stopped now you've left me I just wish I'd had the chance to say goodnight

Recognition 04:12
Recognition © Corrie Shelley She sits by the window staring off into space there's a distance between us that I can't erase all the lines on her face show the laughter we've shared what I wouldn't give to feel her warm embrace but she doesn't know who I am anymore that flicker of recognition is gone no she doesn't know who I am anymore but I'll always say 'Hi Mum' when I walk through the door It's so hard to believe that she's been replaced by this woman beside me who's wearing her face all our shared memories are only mine now want to turn back the clock our lives to retrace So I'll sit here beside her just holding her hand take her on a journey through uncharted lands I'll describe all the places that we've been before hoping she will remember building castles with sand The circle of life deals a cruel painful twist its left me broken and battered and banging my fists for the one that I love is drifting slowly away and I'm left in this turmoil in a darkened abyss
9.
My Shoes 04:01
My Shoes © Corrie Shelley Come spend a day in my shoes, I'll spend a day in yours you can't judge the life I lead until you know the cause everything I've ever done, has lead to where I am everything that you've been through makes you a stronger man So I'll spend a day in your shoes if you'll spend a day in mine Come walk a day in my shoes, I'll walk a day in yours see how far I've travelled before you close the door the risks that I have taken to live this better life to only find that prejudice everywhere is rife but I'll walk a day in your shoes if you'll walk a day in mine the painted smile you see me where masks the pain inside I could never open up it's easier to hide the only time I'm truly me is when I'm fast asleep dreaming of a paradise that's hidden underneath Come sit a while in my shoes, I'll sit a while in yours we'll talk about our families and their love we hold so close we'll tear down all these barriers, but only if we try to just see past the covers to the story inside So I'll sit a while in your shoes if you'll sit a while in mine
10.
Wine & The Liquor © Corrie Shelley I've got this feeling in my heart that just won't go away It's tearing me apart, and leaves this aching pain but every time I see you, I just fall right back in love but you just fall right back into the bottle and the drugs Coz the Wine and the Liquor, don't ever hold a grudge they don't call you up in the middle of the night and declare undying love they are always there to comfort you, warm you through and through but just remember when you sober up who's heart you broke in two There's a ghost inside this house, that haunts my memories takes me to a place where you and I are free but I wake to find the demons have pulled you deep within and I can't seem to reach you the bottle always wins Coz the Wine and the Liquor, don't ever hold a grudge they don't call you up in the middle of the night and declare undying love they are always there to comfort you, warm you through and through but just remember when you sober up who's heart you broke in two Coz the Wine and the Liquor, don't ever hold a grudge they don't call you up in the middle of the night and declare undying love but every time I see you, I just fall right back in love but you just fall right back into the bottle and the drugs
11.
Hard to Believe © Corrie Shelley I picked up the paper today when I usually throw it away coz the headline it read that another was dead to many are taken away I still can't believe that they're gone but at least their music plays on there's a queue at the gate, St Peter thinks that it's great this will be the best gig bar none Oh I still can't believe how we mourn and we grieve as though they are family but the songs that they sang, and the notes they let hang was as though they were talking to me Well I'd know all the words off by heart and play them again from the start each one took me away to the very same day to a lost love that tore me apart But I hope that when I leave this land and the gates open up and I'll stand to see all of them there, with their music to share this will be one hell of a band
12.
Sit Down Together © Corrie Shelley & Bob Kettle There's another war brewing we said the last was the last but still we send men off to war when will we learn the mistakes of the past haven't we been here before Let's sit down together, Let's stand side by side Face one another share each other's pride let's all agree we each have a place coz aren't we all part of this human race When will we learn that the fighting don't work another tyrant will just take their place we say it's all in the name of humanity but what of the folks we displace History keeps on repeating and we keep getting it wrong laying claim to another man's land sending men out with guns in their hands how many sons and daughters must die and be taken away from us how many people must run for their lives and live in a world of mistrust History keeps on repeating and we keep getting it wrong laying claim to another man's land sending men out with guns in their hands

Big Man 03:42
Big Man © Corrie Shelley Oh the Big Man said he'd send his son to save us the Big Man said he'd send his son real soon the Big Man said he'd send his son to save us but there's more chance of being saved by the man up in the moon Well the world keeps spinning but there's no sign of salvation the world keeps spinning but there's no sign of change the world keeps spinning but there's no sign of salvation prayers go un answered returned to sender like redirected mail. Oh the Big Man said he'd send his son to save us the Big Man said he'd send his son real soon the Big Man said he'd send his son to save us but there's more chance of being saved by the man up in the moon Oh the Big Man said he'd send his son to save us the Big Man said he'd send his son real soon the Big Man said he'd send his son to save us but there's more chance of being saved by the man up in the moon The devil said 'let's party on till morning' The devil said 'let's party on all night' The devil said 'let's party on till morning' the beers are cold, the women hot and it'll only cost your life

about

In a bold departure from her previous sound, Forget Me Not is an experimentation of Corrie’s rock roots within the tried and true framework of her style. Inspired by past generations, children, TV shows, failed relationships and more, this is yet another dip into Corrie’s cupboard of dusty jars.

Come join her as she unscrews the lids of these timeless tales, preserved perfectly by the memories of a life well lived.
