Mother Earth
© Corrie Shelley
As we all lie here sleeping blind to the facts
that the world she is dying we won't get her back
We've drained her resources for wealth and for greed
polluted her waters then cry when she bleeds
stripped all her clothing left her naked and cold
but in return all we do is scold
Coz the climate it's changing the seasons have moved
and now natural disasters become everyday news
the fires are burning down all the trees
the icecaps are melting and swelling the seas
we're building on her green land like we have the right
soon she'll be too weak to put up a fight
We have taken much more than we've ever given
and we pray to our Gods in the hope we're forgiven
but she is our mother, our giver of life
but in return all she gets is strife
so open your eyes now wake up to the signs
let's stop this destruction before we run out of time
Coz As we all lie here sleeping blind to the facts
that our mother is dying we won't get her back

Wedgwoods Daughter
© Corrie Shelley
She came from a high class family that had everything she could ever want
but the man who truly stole her heart was just a lowly miners son
she'd met him whilst out walking one fine summers day
and as she looked into his eyes he stole her heart away
well her family did not approve of the love she felt for her new boe
they told her she must marry one whom they had chosen long ago
his lineage was of the finest pedigree
but she was just as stubborn as a daughter could be
Eliza Wedgwood was her name John Jarvis was her lover
and in his hands he held her heart for she could love no other
they had a daughter of their own a fair and bony child
John was a fine upstanding man who dug coal up from the ground
Now her family disowned her for the poor life that she had chose
but every summer they would take her daughter to their stately home
to holiday in the big house and frolic in the sun
where she would walk the garden paths like her mother had done
so Eliza stood by her choice and in her bed she did lay
she never saw her family again until her dying day
she wished that they could only see this kind and gentle man
but they could only see his class was beneath the one she'd had
She came from a high class family that had everything she could ever want
but the man who truly stole her heart was just a lowly miners son
she'd met him whilst out walking one fine summers day
and as she looked into his eyes he stole her heart away

Ghost Light
© Corrie Shelley
A veil of dust drifts to the floor
like snowflakes on a cold winters morning
they sparkle, they shine, they dance all around
coz they've heard the music calling
memories of footsteps still linger
the boards creak in time to the beat
dreams fill the air, as though they're still there
echoes of rapturous applauding
You can just about read the name of the show
on posters that fade as they hang in the frame
A star studded cast that once filled the stage
The hero his love did proclaim
They'd take you to magical places
to fill you with joy and delight
they bring you to tears, invoke some fear
Then bow to the joyful acclaim
There's a ghost light shining
on the stage tonight
there's a ghost light shining
so bright
it waits for the show, and the music to flow
on a promise of opening night
there's a ghost light shining
on the stage tonight
Seats are closed mouthed, they're waiting to laugh
costumes hang in anticipation
the orchestra pit wants to strike up the band
the drums beat a rhythmic pulsation
scripts need their words to be spoken
music their notes to be sung
nobody knows, when we'll open the doors
but they'll all get a standing ovation
There's a ghost light shining
on the stage tonight
there's a ghost light shining
so bright
it waits for the show, and the music to flow
on a promise of opening night
there's a ghost light shining
on the stage tonight

See You On the Other Side
© Corrie Shelley
If I can't go to your house and you can't come to mine
If I can't see you down the street wearing your perfect smile
Just remember with each passing day I do think of you
I hope you're safe, as you self isolate
to avoid this blasted flu
All holidays are cancelled, no chance of chillin by the pool
the kids are left home alone coz they've closed down all the schools
there's panic buying in the shops as people start to horde
let's stop this greed, buy only what you need
quit going overboard
Theatres drop their curtains, the cast take their final bow
musicians turn to online gigs to entertain the crowd
the TV's start to show repeats from a time gone by
follow the plans, and wash your hands
whilst singing Aulde Lang Syne
Now everyone's an expert on things they know nowt about
the ones who know the least seem to be the ones who shout
they share fake news like it's the truth, their opinions always right
but sleep well my friends, this is not the end
we will make it through the night
We'll see you on the other side on that you can depend
we'll pull together one and all our communities will mend
as we all head into lockdown the streets are quiet and still
Pour a glass of Gin, as we all stay in
to prevent us getting ill.
If I can't go to your house and you can't come to mine
If I can't meet you down the pub and drink a glass of wine
Just remember with each passing day I do think of you
I hope you're safe, as you self isolate
to avoid this blasted flu
I hope you're safe, as you self isolate
to avoid this blasted flu
